Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2023

I am excited to be participating in the annual Multicultural Children’s Book Day for the second year. This year is their 10th annual celebration! The Multicultural Children’s Book Day event is a great place to discover so many diverse children’s books for the little one’s in your life.

I have been given the opportunity to review books from two authors – Lois Petren and Amanda Hsiung-Blodgett “Miss Panda.” Check them out below!

Little Bun: A Bilingual Storybook About Feelings
By Amanda Hsiung-Blodgett and Emily Blodgett

Book cover - a little bao bun with a face, 4 colorful striped in the background; Little Bun

Little Bun is a helpful book for your little ones to learn about different feelings and emotions in both English and Chinese. Each page shares a sentence of how Little Bun is feeling written in English, Simplified Chinese, and Pinyin. As the mom of a preschooler, I love books and resources that explain the different emotions. It definitely helps me as I try to teach my son how to name and express his feelings. The book is cute and colorful which makes it even more fun learning about the different emotions!

You can also find an audio version to read along with in Chinese. This is great for those learning the language or prefer to listen while they read along.

First Mandarin Sounds: An Awesome Chinese Word Book
By Amanda Hsiung-Blodgett

Book cover - drawings of a mosquito, a woman, and a cow; First Mandarin Sounds

First Mandarin Sounds is a great way to introduce first mandarin sounds and words to your little one. The words are shown in simplified Chinese, Pinyin, and English.

You can also find a few bonus materials, including a pronunciation chart and the audio version of the book. As someone who does not speak Chinese, this was really helpful. I get to learn with my son!

Each book gives several great examples of how your child can practice these magical skills. The messages and artwork in each book are beautiful!
