Simple Valentine’s Day Craft – Clay Ornament

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner! Do you celebrate Valentine’s Day? This Valentine’s Day (and everyday) let’s express our love and gratitude to all the loved ones in our lives.

I have a simple activity that you can do with your kids this Valentine’s Day..or any holiday, really! In honor of the love holiday, we molded and painted a clay heart ornament!

What you will need:

  • Clay – We used an oven-bake clay to be able to paint it the same day, but you can also use an air-dry clay.
  • Paint & brushes
  • String
  • Carving tools to make your designs and the string hole. We used a butter knife and a couple Play-Doh tools.
  • Mat – The clay packaging mentioned it can stain, so we used parchment paper to mold the clay on since we were putting it in the oven after.

    How to:

    Boy playing with clay

Form your clay into a heart (or whatever shape/figure your heart desires).

Carve any designs you’d like to include. We carved my son’s initial onto the heart.

Carve out a small hole at the top that will be used to hang the ornament.

If you have oven-bake clay, follow the instructions on your packaging.

    When dry/cooled off, paint away!

Once the paint is dry, add the string into the hole. I also added the date on the back in Sharpie.

Hang it around the house or save it with your Christmas decor for your Christmas tree.

    Happy Valentine's Day! ❤️
